PDX to Build New Garage To Alleviate Congestion
Portland - The Port of Portland Commission recently approved
the addition of a new long-term parking garage at PDX. Atop
the garage will be the new Port of Portland headquarters facility.
The structure will be built adjacent to the present parking
garage at PDX in a portion of the current long-term parking
lot. It will have room for an additional 3,000 vehicles and
500 rental car spaces. Offices on the top three floors will
house most Port employees who work now at PDX, as well as
employees who work in the current headquarters building in
downtown Portland.
The Port will not use tax money to fund the new facility,
and there will be no increase in airport fees. Construction
on the garage begins this summer.
A portion of the new garage will open in 2008, and it will
be fully open in 2009. The Port headquarters will be complete
in spring 2010.
Concrete Form Production
Plant Moves to Northwest
Wilsonville - TritexTM ICF Products has added two production
facilities to serve customers in the Pacific Northwest and
southeastern United States. Tritex insulated concrete forms
(ICFs) will be produced by Tegrant, formerly SCA Packaging
of North America, in its Wilsonville, Ore. plant. In the southeast,
Tritex forms will be manufactured by Cellofoam in Orlando,
Fla.
This brings the number of plants producing the Tritex ICFs
to five. Other plants are located in Colorado Springs, Colo.,
Conyers, Ga. and Plymouth, Wis.
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, Tritex ICF Products is a manufacturer
and distributor of insulating concrete forms for residential
and commercial structures.
Otak Wins Contract to
Assist with Park Plan
PORTLAND - The City of Lake Oswego has selected Otak Inc.,
to assist with stormwater-management improvements to the George
Rogers Park Master Plan. Otak was chosen in large part for
its expertise in water resources and natural resources planning,
engineering and sciences.
Based in Lake Oswego, Otak will provide stormwater management
and aesthetic improvements during the implementation of Ladd
Street (Phase 5) of the George Rogers Park Master Plan. The
estimated $1 million project will incorporate green street-design
elements to handle stormwater runoff, reduce traffic speeds
and create an aesthetically pleasing entry to the park.
Otak previously completed the Ladd Street Hydrologic Study
in May 2006. That study provided the necessary background
analysis to guide the design of this new green street approach.
Local Painter Named
National PDCA President
Portland - Portland businessman Dave Siegner was recently
elected national president of the Painting and Decorating
Contractors of America (PDCA). In his new leadership role
Siegner will oversee operations of the national trade organization
that serves more than 2,500 paint contracting companies in
the United States and Canada. Siegner is a Portland native
and owner of Siegner and Company, a commercial and residential
paint contracting business headquartered in Portland.
The Portland contracting market will benefit from initiatives
that Siegner is supporting on a national level. "There
are several issues in the paint contracting business that
are priorities for us," says Siegner. "The quality
of our work force is a primary issue. We need to focus on
education and connecting with the minority workers, primarily
Hispanic, who gravitate to our trade. We've already begun
by offering many of our training programs and manuals in Spanish."
In addition, Siegner indicated that a delegation from PDCA
recently met in Mexico City with one of the largest paint
manufacturers in the world. He says, "The goal of this
meeting was to open a dialogue to discuss business relationships
that promote our labor force education goals."
