New Seattle Police Station Helps Community,
Environment
Seattle - Completed in early
May, the new Southwest Seattle police precinct station helps
make the area a safer place to live and visit. Located at
2300 S.W. Webster St., at the intersection of Delridge Way
S.W., the building is designed and constructed to meet LEED
Silver standards.
The 28,000-sq.-ft. facility also meets new seismic and
"essential facility" criteria intended to ensure
functionality following earthquake or other traumatic events.
Designed with community participation, the facility includes
community meeting rooms in addition to facilities essential
to police an public safety work.
The structure faces south and utilizes overhangs and
shading devices to provide both sun protection and natural
daylight as well as operable window as well as a highly efficient
air conditioning system. This combination is estimated to
improve energy performance by 28 percent when compared to
more conventional designs. Ariai/ Jackson architects and Lighting
Design Lab were the designers.
Landscaping utilizes native plants, minimizes and filters
stormwater runoff, and connects to a detention pond to help
support salmon habitat. Hough Beck and Baird were the landscape
architects.
