Health Co-op Chooses architect

Bellevue - Group Health Cooperative has named Ellerbe Becket, in association with Northwest Architectural Company (NAC), as the architect to complete the design and construction of its new multispecialty medical center in Bellevue. The medical center is scheduled to open in 2008.

The $120 million medical center will provide space for the outpatient practice of Group Health physicians in more than 20 specialty areas, including cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, sports medicine, and primary care.

The center will house outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, a women's health care center, cancer treatment center, and an outpatient acute and urgent care center.

The medical center will be next to and connected with Overlake Hospital's new 104-bed inpatient tower.

That investment also includes a new primary care center in Redmond at a location to be determined.

Platinum Project in Planning Stages

Spokane- Coffman Engineers, Seattle, is currently the electrical design for the first project in the state of Washington on track to achieve a LEED® Platinum certification. The project is the preservation and the renovation of the four-story historic Saranac Hotel located in Spokane, Wash.

Some of the electrical LEED® design elements on the Saranac building include: software operating on a USB infrared interface, automatic light dimmers, occupancy sensor lighting controls and an infrared occupancy sensor.

Coffman Engineers currently has 12 LEED accredited professionals company wide.

Mortenson Reaches Safety Milestone

Minneapolis -- M. A. Mortenson Company surpassed two million worker hours company-wide without a Lost Time Injury to any employee. This accomplishment represents more than seven months of construction performed safely by Mortenson's 1,800 craft workers and project/office staff.

This achievement marks a substantial milestone in the company's goal to eliminate all worker injury at every project site and every work place. Mortenson has instituted a Zero Injury program, which empowers each team member to stop work if necessary to correct any unsafe conditions.

Sunbelt Sells Scaffolding Arm

Charlotte, NC Sunbelt Rentals ("Sunbelt") announced that it has sold its scaffolding specialty business in Oregon, Washington, California and Texas to Safway Services, Inc. The sale allows Sunbelt to continue to focus on its core General Tool, Construction Equipment and specialty businesses in these markets.

Sunbelt Rentals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ashtead Group plc, is the fourth largest equipment rental company in the United States as listed by the Rental Equipment Register. Sunbelt provides equipment rental solutions for the industrial, construction, and municipal markets.

Vulcan Buys Out Project

Seattle - With 2200's condominiums nearly sold out and construction well under way, Vulcan Inc. has purchased Milliken Development Group's minority stake in the project and assumed full management of the development.

The transition will not affect the construction schedule and comes on the heels of 2200's strong condo sales. More than 90 percent of the units have been sold.

Located just north of the downtown Seattle core, 2200 will be Seattle's first development that combines a hotel, condominiums and a grocery store along with other high-quality retail.

Golf Tournament Donates Proceeds

Newcastle- Bellevue-based repair and restoration specialists RemcoDeacon recently donated the proceeds of its third annual RemcoDeacon Charity Golf Tournament to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Puget Sound, a non-profit organization that assists the families of young cancer patients.

The tournament, drew 150 golfers from up and down the west coast, including attorneys, architects, consultants, subcontractors, owners, developers and property managers. Twenty companies donated their services as sponsors.

As a subsidiary of S.D. Deacon Corp., RemcoDeacon serves as a general contractor in the repair and restoration of multi-tenant residential properties.

More Condos For Bellevue

Bellevue -- Wasatch Development Associates LLC, and its partners announced that they have begun clearing, grading and leveling the first phase of their Wasatch Superblock site in preparation for a major mixed-use development in downtown Bellevue. This is the first of five phases.

The first phase of the Wasatch project will clear space for two 22-story residential towers and a 757-stall parking garage. Each of the towers will contain approximately 180 condominiums, along with a total of 20,000-sq.- ft. of retail space in the first phase.

The Wasatch Superblock Phase I project is being financed by U.S. Bank, and the project's architect is Seattle-based CollinsWoerman.
