project in downtown Seattle.
Developers Close Deal
On Black Diamond Property
Kirkland
- Kirkland based Yarrow Bay Group announced it has acquired
some 860 acres in the Black Diamond area from Plum Creek Land
Company of Seattle. Price and terms were not disclosed.
This brings Yarrow Bay Group's holdings in the Black Diamond
area to nearly 1,580 acres, which includes 320 acres in Lawson
Hills purchased or under contract from Palmer Coking Coal
Company and adjoining property owners and 400 acres bought
from Washington Real Estate Holdings in late August.
The company hopes to create two master planned communities
on the land. Construction could begin in two to three years,
depending on the planning and approval process, a company
spokesperson said.
Brix Condos Replace
Grocery Store near City Core
SEATTLE - Demolition of Broadway's old Safeway building on
Capitol Hill began recently, making way for Brix Condomini-ums,
Capitol Hill's newest residential mixed use retail/condominium
development.
Brix is one of the key components in Mayor Greg Nickels'
recently announced Broadway revitalization plan, which combines
a city investment of $345,000 to rejuvenate and improve Broadway,
with more than $55 million in private investment.
Schnitzer Northwest is providing development services to
S/I Broadway, an affiliated entity which owns the Brix project.
Construction is scheduled to be completed and occupancy to
occur in the 1st quarter of 2008. WG Clark will be the construction
manager for the project.
Founder of Shannon
and Wilson Dies at 92
Bill Shannon, a civil engineer, businessman, and leader in
the geotechnical engineering profession, died on September
26 at age 92. In 1954, Mr. Shannon and Stan Wilson, who met
at Harvard, formed Shannon & Wilson, Inc. a Seattle engineering
firm which focuses on designing building foundations and earthen
dams, geotechnical consulting, and earthquake engineering.
Mr. Shannon worked on projects in the Pacific Northwest and
Alaska, as well as Canada, Korea, Borneo, Portugal, Australia,
and Vietnam. He consulted on cofferdams, highways, railroads,
dewatering, and deep excavations, to name a few areas of practice.
The company now has 8 office specializing in geotechnical
consulting nationwide.
