Sparling has announced the promotion of Tim Janof, PE, LEED AP to Associate
Principal. Janoff, who joined Sparling in 1995, leads the firms sustainable design research initiatives and heads the program to promote staff continuing education as the Dean of Sparling University. He is currently working on sustainable design projects, including data centers and corporate offices, for Amazon, Microsoft, and Seattle’s Westin
Building.
GBD Architects, Inc. has announced the promotion of Craig Stockbridge, AIA, Kyle
Anderson, AIA, and Keith Skille, AIA, to Associate Principals. Stockbridge, who graduated from the University of Oregon, has been with GBD for thirteen years, and has
been involved in commercial, residential, retail and recreational projects, including all
phases of design, program management and construction administration. He is currently
the project manager on the Les Schwab Headquarters building in Bend, Ore. Anderson, a graduate of the University of Oregon, has served as lead designer on a range of residential, industrial and commercial projects, including the Bellevue Towers, Portland Community College’s Workforce Training Center, and the LEED Platinum Certified Oregon Health & Science University Center for Health and Healing in Portland.
Design firm NBBJ recently names a new partner and two new principals. David Yuan, the firms newest partner, is a graduate of Harvard University who has been with NBBJ for more than 17 years, and leads the firm’s commercial practice, specializing in large-scale, mixed-use projects. He has served as team leader on such projects the Schnitzer 5th and Madison Tower, the WaMu Center, the expansion of the Seattle Art Museum, and Pacific Place. He has also served on the board of the Seattle Downtown Association and is the former chair of the Pioneer Square Preservation Board. New principal Dick Lee studied architecture at North Dakota State University and the University of California, Berkeley. Specializing in healthcare projects, Lee has worked on the University of Washington Surgery Pavilion, Southwest Washington Medical Center, and Banner Gateway Medical Center. Alan Whitaker, AIA, also specializes in healthcare projects, A graduate of Virginia Tech, Whitaker joined NBBJ in 1989 and has worked on such projects as Virginia Mason Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and the Southwest Washington Medical Center.
Consulting engineering firm Berger/Abam has announced three new appointments to
their Federal Way office. Ajaya Malla received his bachelors degree in civil and
environmental engineering from the University of Adelaide in Australia, and his masters in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently working on the seismic assessment of the Seattle monorail, and on the design of the Fort Lewis Brigade Complex. Tyler Wandschneider received his bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and has experience with the design of precast concrete parking structures and hollow-core system projects. He is currently working on the Sea-Tac Airport Gina Marie Bar and Kiosk and the Elwha Bridge replacement project. Evan Sheehy, EIT, received his bachelors in civil engineering from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and has experience with the design and evaluation
of new and upgraded waterfront structures, including dry dock, dry dock caisson, and pier systems. He is currently working on Dry Dock Nos. 4 and 5 at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and on the Certification report Update at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Mulvanny G2 Architecture, has announced the promotion of seven members of it
Portland staff. Gary Larson, who has achieved national recognition for his work in urban mixed-use and retail design, has been promoted to Senior Principal. Larson was the lead on the Burnside Bridgehead project, a five-city redevelopment project. He was recently elected to the board of the Architecture Foundation of Oregon.
The following have been promoted to Principle:
John Flynn has more than 20 years of international and domestic experience managing
a diverse range of projects, including commercial and residential high-rise buildings,
mixed-use space and college campuses. He specializes in the design of building
enclosure systems and envelope assemblies for high-rise buildings. Flynn has worked on several award-winning projects, including Portland City Storage’s boat dry storage facility, and the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg, Ore. Flynn serves as an adjunct professor at Marylhurst University and has taught at the University of Oregon Portland architecture program.
Robert Hoffman is a LEED-accredited professional specializing in mixed-use projects.
He recently completed The Wyatt, a 15-story mixed-use project in the Pearl District.
Currently, he is implementing sustainable development practices in the design the
Bellevue Towers, a 44-story mixed-use residential tower ranked among the most environmentally friendly condos on the West Coast. He currently serves as treasurer on
the executive committee of the AIA Portland chapter board of directors.
Randy Trout helped develop proprietary software for sitefolio, MulvannyG2’s portfolio
management application that allows clients to distribute and monitor responses to change requests that affect an entire building program. In addition to leading teams in the design implementation and development of construction documents, he specializes in the development, coordination and implementation of prototype store designs.
Les Lasher is a team leader for the firm’s Portland office. He manages retail projects
ranging from local stores to national clients. He is currently a retail team leader for
MulvannyG2 clients, including: Nike, Fred Meyer, Best Buy, Safeway and WinCo Foods. Lasher recently worked with a Taiwanese television producer to create two of the first Hannspree stores in America – in San Francisco and Beverly Hills.
Matt Neish has 17 years of architectural experience ranging from large-scale retail
programs to commercial, high-tech and restaurant projects. In 2007, Neish broke
ground with the first MulvannyG2-constructed Target store in Spring Valley, N.Y. At the
end of 2008, his team will celebrate design and construction of their 200th store.
In addition, Suenn Ho has been promoted to retail Design Lead. Ho is a Fulbright Fellow and a grant recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts, has worked with world-renowned architect Rafael Vinoly in New York, and contributed to the open international
competition-winning proposal to design the Tokyo International Forum, the largest and most important cultural complex in Japan. It marked the first time in Japan’s history that a foreign designer was selected for a major project. At MulvannyG2, Ho has worked extensively with Old Town/Chinatown districts to establish a comprehensive and visionary urban design statement for the district. Ho has served on boards for the Classical Chinese Garden, Transition Project Inc. and the School of Advisory Council for St. Ignatius. Ho has also taught at Columbia College and the University of Hong Kong and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon and Portland State University.
