Hillsboro Civic Center
LRS
Architects
Both the architect, LRS, Portland and the general contractor,
Skanska USA won awards for Hillsboro Civic Center in Hillsboro,
Ore.
Located in the downtown area, the project spans three city
blocks and a light rail line. While the centerpiece is of
the project is the 120,000-sq.-ft. city hall and two adjoining
plazas, the project also contains a 90-unit affordable housing
complex, retail and office space. The design incorporates
sustainable elements, earning it a Gold LEED certification,
the first city hall in North America to do so. For energy
conservation, the building was designed with some unique features
including economizers and heat recovery ventilators and high
performance glazing and low-e coating windows. The building
closely monitors CO2 and uses a dynamic filtration system
in the MVAC an equipment. The site itself was a former brownfield.
